Applications are invited from outstanding, driven individuals for a post-doctoral fellowship focused on understanding the mechanisms involved in short and long-term health consequences of neonatal diet. Ongoing projects are aimed at determining the role of infant diet on gastrointestinal tract development and immune responses. Candidates will work in both experimental and clinical domains. Animal studies will involve working with piglets and mice. The specific focus is to understand the role of microbiota, microRNAs and metabolites in gut development and immune responses. To this end, candidates will utilize histomorphometric analyses, real-time PCR, Westerns, ELISA, next-Gen sequencing-based approaches, and other relevant techniques, and will be able to leverage the ACNC’s existing strengths in bioinformatics, transcriptomics, and microbiome characterization.
The Arkansas Children’s Nutrition Center is one of six national Human Nutrition Research Centers (HNRCs) funded by the United States Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service (USDA-ARS), and is affiliated with the Arkansas Children’s Hospital in partnerthip with the Arkansas Children’s Research Institute and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. The ACNC is located in Little Rock, the capitol of the State of Arkansas, which is among America’s most affordable cities and offers a vibrant nightlife, active community and many natural attractions for activities.
A recent PhD or MD degree with training in fields of Microbiology, Physiology, Immunology or Nutrition is preferred. Candidates will work as a part of interdisciplinary team and participate in the design and implementation of studies, analyses and communication of research findings. U.S. citizenship is not required; however, fluency in English and demonstrated ability to write scientifically is a must. Working knowledge in molecular biology is a requisite. This position provides a rich environment to learn novel methodologies in a collaborative fashion. Compensation is negotiable based on experience.
