The Department of Radiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks a faculty member with a PhD or equivalent training in physics, chemistry, mathematics, and/or veterinary medicine with expertise and substantial experience in preclinical and clinical nuclear imaging research with a focus on positron emission tomography (PET) acquisition, quality control, and data analysis. The successful candidate will assume the role of Director of the UAB Small Animal Facility and work collaboratively with other UAB faculty with expertise in radiochemistry, optical imaging, computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). In addition to the development of a personal research portfolio, this faculty member will also work with other investigators to expand the UAB PET program in the preclinical and clinical arenas.
The environment at UAB is ideal for fostering interactions with basic scientists and physician scientists which provides an ideal route for translation to human studies. Additionally, UAB has substantial infrastructure to support radiochemistry and nuclear imaging including a TR24 cyclotron, GMP and research radiochemistry space and imaging equipment for preclinical and clinical applications.
