Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Associate Director-Molecular Pathology.
This role reports to the Senior Administrative Director of Pathology and the Molecular Pathology Medical Director. Directs the proper performance and operations of the molecular pathology laboratory. Directs all laboratory activities and together with the Molecular Pathology Medical Director and Administrative Director oversees the laboratory. Directs and participates in the design and scientific development of the methodology for new molecular clinical tests. In conjunction with the Medical Director evaluates the applicability of different methodology and establishes the appropriate technological changes to be implemented. Responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance for the molecular pathology laboratory and implements the laboratory Quality control program. Oversees development and performance of various branches of the molecular laboratory including but not limited to: molecular oncology, molecular genetics, molecular bioinformatics, and molecular pharmacology.
Designs research and development protocols and analyzes data to introduce novel clinical assays to enable test menu expansion. Participates in the strategic determination of the changing molecular test menu.
Designs and scientifically develops methodology, SOPMs and validation processes for new clinical tests in conjunction with the Molecular Pathology Director. Ensures validation process is developed and implemented in accordance with all regulatory agency standards.
Assists the medical director with result interpretation and review including next generation sequencing data.
Establishes and formulates protocols and manuals for the laboratory
Oversees the operations of the molecular pathology laboratory.
Oversees the development, performance, and monitoring of Quality Control, Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement procedures for the molecular pathology laboratory.
Oversees regulatory compliance for the molecular pathology laboratory. Ensures compliance with CAP, NYS, and Joint Commission. Works with the medical director to ensure that all testing meets all prescribed requirements of various regulatory standards.
Ensures the departmental biohazard, chemical, hazardous waste, infection control, and other safety polices are followed.
Management of staff: assigns responsibilities, establishes work hours, monitors staffing and approves necessary overtime.
Staff Development, Evaluation, Counseling and Personnel related activities: Oversees supervision of the entire staff. Interviews perspective employees, evaluates and documents staff performance and performs personnel counseling. Recognizes and identifies staff needs and develops programs to meet needs.
Planning and Budgeting/Cost Containment: Responsible for ensuring cost control strategies are implemented in the most effective method in order to deliver quality services. Maintains an active awareness of the cost impact of decisions and actions.
Assists with determining billing coding methodology for molecular pathology.
Equipment procurement. Stays abreast of new technologies and suggests implementation of new technology within the laboratory. Evaluates the applicability of novel technologies in the clinical laboratory.
Involved in teaching pathology residents and fellows and rotating medical students.
Together with Medical Director supports clinical trials and clinical translational research mission of the medical center.
In conjunction with the Molecular Director oversees the development and implementation of bioinformatics reporting.
Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a PhD with 5 years experience, NYS DOH Certificate of Qualification in Oncology (Molecular & Cellular Tumor Markers). Experience with next-generation sequencing testing methodologies. Experience with array methodology.
Preferred Qualifications: PhD with 6+ years experience in Molecular Pathology. NYS License as a clinical laboratory technologist. High complexity technical supervisor certification in molecular diagnostics.
