Witt/Kieffer has been retained by Stamford Health to assist in recruiting for a Department Chair of Family Medicine.
The Chair of Family Medicine will lead an effort to define the future vision for the Department of Family Medicine within the context of the hospital’s overall strategic plan and goals. This Chair will be responsible for guiding the Department’s clinical, educational, and administrative efforts with a particular emphasis on reviewing and assessing the patient care delivery model, integrating the faculty and aligning community physicians in achieving a defined and compelling vision, and growing the Department’s clinical services, while measuring and improving quality and patient safety. The Chair will also lead the advancement of education within the Department, striving to provide the best experience for residents and medical students as well as managing all aspects related to clinical operations, regulations and accreditations.

It is anchored by Stamford Hospital, a 305-bed not-for-profit teaching acute care hospital offering services in medicine and general and specialized surgery; including open-heart surgery. The Hospital is a member of the New York Presbyterian Health Care System, and an affiliate of the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Stamford Health also includes the Tully Health Center, a 175,000 sq. ft. outpatient facility which houses an immediate care center, state of the art outpatient facility which house physician offices, a same-day surgery center, endoscopy center, The Center for Integrative Wellness, broad imaging capabilities, physical therapy, fitness programs, cardiac rehabilitation and nutrition programs. The other system member is the Diagnostic Imaging Center of Darien.
The Department of Family Medicine and its Family Medicine Residency Program at Stamford has its roots in the former St. Joseph Hospital, which was merged into Stamford Hospital more than 25 years ago. Today the Department has 32 members and four APPs. Like most other departments at Stamford, the Department has a hybrid provider staff, with 18 providers employed by the Stamford Health Medical Group (SHMG) and 14 independent providers. Integration and growth of primary care in the Stamford market, is a major focus for the organization. Improving access and reducing wait times for appointments are key goals for the Department.
An MD or DO degree and appropriate Board certification(s) is required for this position. The successful candidate will have a proven ability of business acumen and solid performance as a skilled manager with demonstrated ability to develop and grow programs and revenue in a fiscally sound manner with measured outcomes; including meeting/exceeding budgets, assessing performance and outcomes, and taking appropriate business risks. He or she will possess an unwavering commitment to enforcing the quadruple aim and patient centered care, consistent with the hospital’s Planetree designation.
