The Ahmanson Translational Theranostics Division (ATTD), Department of Molecular and Medical Pharmacology, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, is recruiting a non-tenure track, full-time Adjunct faculty position at the Assistant Professor level to serve as preclinical theranostics scientist with a peptide focus.
Candidates are expected to have extensive experience in peptide-based ligand application, pharmakokinetics, pharmacological evaluation of new theranostic molecule candidate, peptide, analytical and organic chemistry and oncology, and to have mastered the full range of in vitro biology assays including standard molecular biological and protein biochemical methods, immunohistochemistry, tissue culture, and functional, phenotypic assays.
The ATTD has created a successful translational theranostics program, ranging from biology, chemistry/radiochemistry, and preclinical imaging to clinical research and clinical service.
To meet the Division’s growing needs, this position will be responsible for the management of in vitro and in-vivo preclinical theranostic imaging and therapy projects; optimization of relevant murine models and therapy models; mechanistic in vitro studies; managing research technicians and student researchers.
The selected faculty will interact with regulatory experts in the Department of Molecular and Medical Pharmacology; lab safety management; and grant submissions to intra-and extramural agencies.
Approval – overseeing all aspects of nonclinical development and interactions with the Division of Laboratory Animal Medicine
Integrating preclinical theranostics research from cells to murine models
Teaching and training – provide lectures to graduate and undergraduate students
Candidates must have a PhD in Pharmacology or Biology and documented experience in peptides and organic chemistry, and experience involving theranostics; in vitro studies involving standard molecular biological and protein biochemical methods, immunohistochemistry, tissue culture, diverse phenotypic and mechanistic assays. Candidate must also document the ability to evaluate proposed investigational projects, in vitro and in-vivo.
The successful candidate must have at least two publications as a lead author and a track record of securing funding.

About Department of Molecular and Medical Pharmacology
The Department of Molecular and Medical Pharmacology (DMMP) is a combined basic science and clinical department. The DMMP integrates mathematics, engineering, physical, biological and medical sciences to achieve together advances that we cannot achieve individually in three overall areas: (1) understanding biology of disease, (2) developing new molecular diagnostics and (3) developing new molecular and cellular therapeutics.The DMMP offers an opportunity for students, postdocs, medical fellows, and basic and clinical faculty to explore together the molecular and biological mechanisms that regulate cellular and organ functions to (1) identify and understand molecular errors of disease, (2) develop means to diagnose and monitor disease, and (3) develop pharmacological means to correct these errors. Within the DMMP are the preclinical Crump Institute for Molecular Imaging (CIMI) and the Ahmanson Translational Imaging Division (ATID). Within ATID, with its Nuclear Medicine and PET imaging research and clinical service, students have access to state-of-the-art science and technology to directly impact patient care.
