The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, ranked the No. 1 Academic Medical Center in the World for output of published research in three of the last four years according to the prestigious Nature Index, is seeking applicants for a Nuclear Medicine faculty position. The candidate must have a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or foreign equivalent; have completed a minimum of two (2) years of Residency or fellowship training in Nuclear Medicine; be board-certified by ABNM and/or ABR with Nuclear Radiology subspecialty Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ); and be an Authorized User of radioisotopes. Exceptionally well-qualified applicants with board certification and extensive Nuclear Medicine experience will be considered. Eligibility for full Texas medical license and its acquisition prior to start of employment is required. Appointment rank will be commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience.
The successful candidate should demonstrate mastery of the operations of Nuclear Medicine by providing accurate, detailed and timely interpretations and performing relevant nuclear medicine therapies and procedures. The candidate is also expected to provide high-quality clinical services at University Hospitals and Clinics and at Parkland Health and Hospital System; exercise quality assurance through regular peer review, actively engage in teaching residents and fellows; and develop research interests in any area within the scope of nuclear medicine. . Candidates with certification in Nuclear Cardiology, experience in Neuro molecular imaging, or artificial intelligence are of particular but not exclusive interest.
The Division of Nuclear Medicine, which includes five faculty members, supervises and interprets more than 20,000 examinations per year, including General Nuclear Medicine, PET/CT, SPECT/CT, nuclear cardiology, and DEXA. The division also oversees a theranostic program with Iodine-131, Radium-223, and 177Lu therapies. The Division hosts an ACGME-accredited nuclear medicine residency program, a PET/CT fellowship program, and an integrated ABR/ABNM training program for dual certification.
Faculty members have dedicated academic time with opportunities to develop research interests in collaboration with our strong basic science group, as well as other clinical and basic science departments throughout the campus. More than 12 clinical trials with investigational diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals are open in the Division of Nuclear Medicine, including NCI- and industry-sponsored multicenter clinical trials. We hold investigator-initiated INDs for multiple investigational PET radiopharmaceuticals. There is also ample opportunity to collaborate in a range of preclinical novel radiopharmaceutical research projects within the Division of Nuclear Medicine and in the Cyclotron and Radiochemistry Program. Current projects focus on immunoPET imaging, Tau imaging, infection imaging and theranostic clinical trials.
